Thai "Massage" or the birth of a very very misleading name!
step 1 : change the name, change the essence
Thai people say "hard fat" for what we call "cheese".
No cows, no milk, no cheese.
Western people say "thai massage" for what they call "nuad boran".
No lineage, no wind, no nuad boran.
step 2 : chose a misleading name, chose another reality
Imagine now that the word "fat" and "massage" are, for different reasons, negatively connoted in the societies which imported "cheese" and "nuad boran".
The conceptual reality of the western world changed "nuad boran" into "thai massage".
The environment you live in conditionates your belief system, your reality.
Thai Massage is misunderstood by lay people partly because of the characteristics of western environment :

Thai Massage is misunderstood by lay people partly because of the characteristics of western environment :
- palliative medicine is the mainstream/legal/trusted medicine. Consequence : "Massage" is being pushed out of the edge of the medical establishment and lands into wellness, spa salons, alternative or illegal medicines.
- the mind needs tangible explanations, rational facts, likes the dialectical/scientific approach, can't believe what the 5 senses don't perceive or doubts it if they do.
- low body awareness, readiness to give up one's responsibility
Going for treatment. Why?
When stress (in whatever form) is stored in the body, cells shrink together, meridians become tight, etc… This initial contraction located in one or different layers of the body (i.e. meridians, fasciae or muscles), spreads, on time, to other layers while creating patterns of compensations and restrictions, whose very nature is to remind you of the stress you didn’t process. The result is usually experienced as pain!!!, and at this level, you are thinking of what you could do, what it takes for the pain!!! to go!
So, what can you do? Can you do something? YES YOU CAN !!!
Since the body is intelligent, it won’t allow a trauma to be released unless it has been processed. Releasing or letting go something that is not understood would just be a waste of potential. “Understood” doesn’t mean that you have to comprehend it on the superficial, conscious level. It can and often, happens, at deeper levels to which the conscious mind doesn’t have access! There is a growth opportunity behind each problem you have ... I have ... we have. Although you might not be aware of it, your body does! And so the pain remains and remains …
The therapist doesn't heal you. It would be equivalent to stealing your potential growth and throwing it out. You - the client, is the real healer.
The body is so perfect the way it is, it just needs a hint to release the energy trapped into the blockages, unwind the fasciae, relax the muscles, adjust the posture and integrate the whole experience!
Once you have got there, pain has ceased to be. As Robert Henderson puts it differently : “Where there is no confusion, there is no pain!!!”!
